On his early morning show Unang Hirit, Philippines top Broadcast Journalist Arnold Clavio and his colleagues Rhea Santos gathers so much criticism on their statement regarding the alleged sexual harassment filed by events match commissioner and former presidential daughter Ms. Cristina Ramos. She filed sanctions against two Azkals players Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado.
“Hindi ko kayo ka-kultura. Kasi wala dito (pointing to his chest)…. at wala dito (pointing to his head)…” “Hindi naman kayo Pilipino. Nagpapanggap lang kayong kayumanggi. Hindi kayo dito lumaki”. In connection to Clavio’s statement the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) filed a formal complaint as they see racist, discriminatory, libelous and malicious statement against his statement and other co-hosts, during the nationwide broadcast of the their program. The PFF also protest and demand with GMA7 to impose the appropriate sanctions as well as to write an apology to be read on the morning show.

The GMA7 in their statement wants to clear that the statements being complaint was not part of their reporting wherein statements of facts was the only one being aired and no room for the statement given by its hosts. The statement was unscripted discussion of the hosts in their commentary segment wherein they exchange their opinions and give their standpoint on a particular issue. The network was unhappy that the comprehension of PFF was different as what Arnold wants to realize. Arnold statement was not about pure or half Filipino it is about how did they put in mind and take to their heart the Filipino culture.
It was clear that Arnold Clavio means Filipino Culture and not about the half Filipino or the racism. We may have different understanding on a certain issue, but is it really the issue?. The real issue was sexual harassment and disobedient of the Azkals member, yes! They gathers public sympathy because of their popularity in the television and the games football and their hunky look, their fans is blindfolded by what really the issue is. Let’s admit they are one of the popular and hottest athletes of this season. Ms. Christina Ramos, if they really knows and put in their heart the Filipino culture is like their mother that needs to be respected.
We Filipinos gain admiration in the world with how we treat our elderly. Some foreigners tries to acquire our culture, to be a Filipino even if they are white or black. Why is it that this flag carrier of the Philippines to the world of football who are admitting Filipino to be at heart dont this? Is Mr. Arnold Clavio’s point of view really applies to what the Azkals show. We are provided by the constitution the right to give our opinion as long as it doesn’t deprives ones right.
