Life is beautiful no matter what. Aging is mankind greatest fear, no cure yet ambiguous as nature. Medical and scientific researches with regards to the mythical fountain of youth is so far a big dream in the scientific world. Though science can remedy and mask the wrinkles in our face this is not enough to delude our real age. Consequently people around the world spend a part of their annual income in catering anti-aging cosmetic products and services trying to obscure reality.
“Gusto ko pong maging artista, para matulungan ko yung mga mama at papa ko po” a typical dream that we can hear from child as their awareness gradually awakens. Rachele, a simple 9 year old girl, who loves to play with her fellow mates but because of a disease called Progeria her childhood was forcibly taken making her a 50 years old woman. A rare disease in nature, Rachele knows everything about it, she even knows that when she reached 15 years old, she will die. Probably the way she said it indicates her juvenile mind.

 | The second girl is Maureen 14 years old but because of her disease she was advanced to a 90 to 100 years old woman and eventually she was on her last stage of Progeria. Unlike Rachele, Maureen was isolated to her situation. She spent almost all her life in their house. Maureen’s mother doesn’t even tell that she has only one year to spend with her family. Progeria is a very rare genetic disease wherein symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at a very early age. Occuring in 1 in every 8 million live birth, this disorder has a very low incident rate. Suffering a literal manifestation of aging, the patient age faster than a normal person and by the time the patient reaches 15 years old, they die. |
The two girls for the very first time meet each other, though unfamiliar with eachs other company, they soon become friends. As they enjoy each other, they share their very little ideas that proves how young they are, and how they see the world despite their disease.
Our childhood is the most important stage in our life that’s why it’s very hard to see that these children are not enjoying their youthfulness as other children does; flying a kite, enjoying every sunrise and sunset, going to school, playing in the rain, climbing a tree nor bathe in the river, I don’t know if they even experienced to be in love as we ordinarily feel and enjoy. Their case is the best reflection of how time runs out so fast. We often waste time with our nonsense business, we usually believe that “May Bukas Pa”, that there’s still tomorrow, don’t worry if you cannot finish it today because tomorrow is another day.
